Flatlay: Behind The Scene

What I love about doing flatlay pictures is actually the process. How messy it actually is and the long progress of shooting, editing, and blah blah blah. Here's I show you, my shooting situation everytime I take flatlay pictures.

And yes I use snack jars to hold the papers so they won't be curled. I don't have a private studio so I usually take the pictures in my terrace. Why? To get a natural lightning from the sun, of course! If you haven't know about it yet, here I give you some tips to get perfect pictures.

  1. Never ever take flatlay pictures indoor. Whether it's food flatlay or essentials flatlay. Unless you take it in a professional studio. If you go to a cafe, choose a window seat so you can get the natural light from the sun.
  2. Avoid a table or background which can reflect the light. Because flatlay means you have to take pictures straight from above, it's gonna be super bad if there's light reflected from your table.
  3. The rules number two also applied to the properties. Aluminium spoon or fork is a big no if it can reflect the light. So what you gonna do is just turn the angle. Find the spot where you can take pictures without the spoon or the fork reflecting the light.

So that's it. I hope those tips help you to get the perfect instagramable flatlay pictures :)

  5. Wow, this is really helps Rizu, especially the background paper! I sometimes feel it's so hard to mix and match the color and ended up using fabric instead of paper =_=. I'll learn from your tips anyway, thanks! :)
